My adopted brother came into my life when I was ten years old. From a young age my dream was always to have a baby brother and for the last 7 years of my life I have loved every minute I have spent with him.
During the adoption process I was asked to write a personal statement and I also spent some time with a social worker who asked me some questions about my feelings towards my parents adopting a child. I was only 10 years old at the time so it was all quite overwhelming, but the one thing I knew was that I was over the moon about the possibility of being a big sister.
My best friend and I helped my mum pack a suitcase full of baby clothes, toys and other items to take with us to Pakistan. This was so exciting and I couldn’t wait any longer to meet my new baby brother or sister. I found it hard when both my parents were out in Pakistan and I had to stay with friends and family but it was totally worth it because my brother is the best thing I could ever have asked for.
I will never forget the feeling I had when my parents walked into the room holding my brother when they returned from the orphanage. When I first looked at him I remember thinking how absolutely adorable he was and it felt like he was always part of our family.
